FAQs

What is the purpose of the Fourth Dimension Fellowship Conference (“FDF Conference”)?

The handful of gentlemen planning this conference believe that one of the biggest challenges facing gay men in recovery is the challenge of developing meaningful relationships and communication skills with other members of our community.  In an era of social media and dating apps on our phones, this challenge is made all the more difficult.  Accordingly, this conference is anchored by two goals; (1) developing meaningful connections with members of the sober gay community and (2) development of our working knowledge of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics and, particularly our ability to “practice these principles in all of our affairs,” including, the way we interact with each other.

I have heard that no phones can be used during the FDF Conference?

The success of the FDF Conference depends upon the embrace, by all of us, of the purpose and goals described in answer to the prior question.  We believe that our phones, while a powerful way to communicate and make our lives more efficient, also serve as a barrier to truly connect with our friends and fellows.  Accordingly, we will be asking participants to refrain from using their phones during FDF Conference events, including the banquet and workshops, and will be encouraging all of us to try to avoid using our phones while interacting with members of our fellowship.  Obviously, we will not be “policing” this request, nor would we ever impose a rule regarding phones.  That said, we request that all participants respect this request, out of respect for our fellow conference participants who wish to take full advantage of this experiment of developing community without the crutch of a screen!
